wheres the june gloom?

i so hope this sweltering heat isn't the face of summer..i freakin hate this weather, where's the gloomy clouds at?? i guess the best part of this is the late warm summer nights hangin' out with your friends but it would be nice to have a gray day once i a while.. So this past weekend was kinda nice, saw some old, some new, and some favorite faces. The weekend start last thursday when I went to Fingerprints Records to catch Grand Ole Party which was amazing like i thought it would be.. every show i've seen this year has not disappoint me YET. following that a little drinking in LA @ la cita it was alright, i thought it was a bigger version of memphis bar, costa mesa. And on friday was that "posse on broadway" in downtown santa ana, that was pretty cool. I haven't been to proof for a while and many old faces came out to chill so that was good, no drama just laughing and stuttering..i guess just me..haha Saturday and Sunday I hung out with my sister and her bf which was nice ..our family ties are going stronger by the day.

Anyway, whats going on this week..Hercules And Love Affair :: These guys are going to be touring soon, so go check them out

07/23 Los Angeles, CA - The Echo
07/25 San Diego, CA - Casbah
07/26 San Francisco, CA - Mezzanine
08/08 New York, NY - The Fillmore At Irving Plaza

what a grand ole party

As I assumed it would be, Grand Ole Party was great. Kristin is simply amzing, banging away at the drums and singing ferociously in tune. Their live performance at Fingerprints sounded exactly but better than their record. I want to congratulate them on a job well done. Now go get their record!

This week represents the beginning of blazing fun for many while for others it stands for the determination that we are willing to put forth to achieve the goals we desire. But who says we can't party and kick it with our good friends? So instead of getting f*cked up 5 days a week i have minimized it to 1 but probably 2 days. So lets start the summer of right..

this is Joanie Mendenhall ..
and..

Angela Correa aka Correatown

alright these gals are going to playing in San Diego this friday night @ Whistle Stop Bar for free. These two have a side project together called "The Low Standards" but are continuing to pursue their music careers in separate directions. I discovered them a couple of weeks ago and have totally been amazed by their styles and voices. I might not get the chance to catch them but hope you do. I believe the best shows are the ones that are free, the perform for the love of the music and not the revenue of their turn outs..

On the road again, Sin City

So I took off from Orange County around 2, packed my car with 3 of my buddies, and we were off to rekindle or create devastating bonds with this sin city. I literally have not gone to Vegas for a little over a year, and thats a damn long time for me. Vegas just isn't my town anymore but when your away for so long you have this pulsing urge to go visit the past, hahah. Anywho, we got hooked up on a room at the MGM Grand, which wasn't "grand" but overall pleasant. Our initial plan was to go for one day but somehow was convinced to stay for two and it actually turned out alright compared to past times. It was a nice couple of day getaway. Did some card playing, alot of eating, lazy lounging in the river, and treating the eyes to many beautiful women, clothed and unclothed. It was fun hanging out with the guys and taking our minds off reality, which is good because once I returned home I am more focus and concentrated for my goals and tasks at hand so I love road trips. It's it funny how road trips make you homesick, and then your brain clicks? Anyway it's good to be home and able to sleep in my own bed. Oh there are a couple of events and free shows going on this week, i'll post them when i get more info so check in later.

Ohh Aja..

So I ended up going to this event on friday night in LA and it turned out pretty damn good. We rolled up around 10pm which was perfect because Nico Vega didn't set up until 11pm. We suppose to pay/donate $20 for open bar at the front door BUT we "mistakenly" entered through the back. It was a little private place called the warehaus, there was about 70-80 people, it was very private and intimate. The place no bigger than a 1000 sq. ft. it was awesome. This was the first time I got to see Nico Vega live, and Aja was fuckin' amazing abd beautiful ..they played a set about an hour long with was great. The event raised about $3000 for 3rd world countries that are in need of water supply. Overall it was a good night except for finding the fuckin' freeway to get home from there. Never let the sober friend drive again.

In 1983, the very same year Kraftwerk released Tour de France and Dolly Mixture released Demonstration Tapes, Sarah Nyberg Pergament was born in Trelleborg, Sweden. She moved to Gothenburg at an early age and with both of her parents working as professional musicians she early developed a strong sense and great passion for music and art. After three years of design and artschool and appearances in various musical contexts Sarah sat down by the computer and started writing and producing her own songs. Sometime in the early winter of 2002 the music started to take form and she named her one-woman project Action Biker after the classic C64-game. During 2002, Action Biker played some club gigs and at the swedish twee
festival Mitt Bästa Liv. Sarah moved to Paris where she studied french, did some sporadic DJ:ing and refilled her energy and inspiration. She returned to Gothenburg for a year, happier than ever. Since autumn 2003, she's situated in Stockholm.

le Parkour

Le Parkour - or the Art of Movement - is a way of using the obstacles found in one's path to perform jumps and acrobatics.

This is what I've been interested and wanting to do lately but haven't really met anyone that really does it so I have found a group that does this weekly and locally and it seems like lots of fun. So if you are also intrigue as i am, check out this group PKLA

early birds

So the Lakers opened the series with a lose, which wasn't too disappointed due to the fact that now they know what are up against, and aren't up against much. If that's the best the Celtics are gonna play then the Lakers should have no no problem taking it down for we didnt not play our best and calls weren't as fair as they should have been. But you know how sports and ratings goes..haha Anyway, MSTRKRFT at the Roxy on wednesday night was ridiculously packed, lines were about 2 blocks long and i dont think that they could have fit all those people that were waiting..never have i seen the Roxy that crowded. I'm sure it was off the hook though, wish I made it in..oh well next guys..luckily they come around often so no need to pout over it.

The Ting Tings These guys are performing live on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight, if you have a chance to catch them its worth it..they're up and coming and they have upbeat dance type flow to their music. I find it very refreshing.
